Featuring both an FM radio and a more
natural way of waking you up in the morning, the Philips Wake-Up Light
could be a great addition to any bedroom. Philips state that a unique
combination of light therapy and sound will make is easier to get out of
bed and start your day. However, with a suggest retail price of £130,
is it worth the money?
Philips are a company well known for
their audio products and also light products, so I suppose it only makes
sense to try and combine them together.
The Wake-Up Light simulates a sunrise
gradually over a 30 minute period, before your actual wake-up time,
until your room is filled with bright yellow light. Philips state that
this process stimulates your body to wake up more naturally than if
you’re used to an annoyingly loud alarm on your phone – like I, and many
other, normally do. A sunset feature is also available for when you go
to bed.
As well as the bright natural light, the
Wake-Up Light can also play some natural sounds at the time you set to
wake up. The five different sounds are a bird song, birds in the forest,
zen garden, gentle piano and seaside sounds. They’re all fairly calm
and relaxing.
If nature sounds aren’t really your thing, then you can also be woken up with your favourite radio station.
The design of the Wake-Up Light is quite
simplistic. It sports a white colour scheme and features a display on
the front, with the actual Wake-Up Light situated above it. Below the
display are a selection of buttons for setting the alarms, volume and
changing the radio station.
Around the outer edge of the light you’ve
got a few buttons. Starting on the right we’ve got an alarm button,
some brightness adjusters for the lamp, volume controls for the radio /
alarm, another alarm button and then the snooze button on the right.
Moving around to the rear of the Wake-Up Light we have the radio speaker, power port and the FM radio antenna.
Four rubber feet on the underside of the light stop it from moving around on your bedside table.
